William Gerber, 59, was sentenced to 3 years in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to trying to steal a woman’s car in the Jewel Food Store parking lot earlier this year.

Gerber, formerly of 110 Virginia St., Crystal Lake, pleaded guilty to attempted vehicular hijacking before McHenry County Circuit Court Judge Conrad Floeter.

He was charged with approaching a Crystal Lake woman as she left the Jewel store about 1 p.m. May 30 and demanding the keys to her car.

The woman refused and shoved Gerber, who fled. He was arrested the next day.
