Much media attention has been devoted to Newt Gingrich’s apparent longtime passion for coming face to face with a real live moose, as revealed during the occasion of his recent June weekend visit to the state of New Hampshire.

Now then, had Newt wanted to see more than one moose, he would have expressed a desire to see some moose, not some mooses!

The grammarians/wordsmiths of yore surely must have been some peculiar breed of academic cat. First, they reasonably concluded that one goose plus one goose equals two geese. Then, amazingly, they concluded that one moose plus one moose equals two moose! Why not two meese? The answer, it seems to me, is very simple: That would just make too much sense.
