The Technology Task Force at Harrison Elementary School has set an immediate fundraising goal of equipping a kindergarten classroom with a multimedia computer and software package.

About $2,000 is needed to accomplish that goal, said District 36 Supt. Terry Welke.

The long-term goal will be to update computers in other classrooms as funds or equipment become available, task force members decided at a recent goal-setting meeting.

Parents suggested two fundraising ideas: a spaghetti dinner like one two years ago that raised nearly $1,000 and a pupil directory that could cost about 50 cents to produce and sell for $3 apiece.

“We will probably raise money in $500 to $700 increments, so we need quite a few fundraisers for the amount of money we need,” said parent Sandra Hatfield-Huebner.

Jon Balthazar, Mark Williamson and Rick McGuire, task force parents who develop or design new computer programs, are scheduled to put on a demonstration of the type of hardware and software wanted for the kindergarten classrooms at school registration day, Aug. 16.

The next task force meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at Harrison School, 6809 McCullom Lake Rd.
