Fire Chief Ed Seagraves is asking for approval to spend more than $31,000 to buy a container to hold hazardous material safely.
Seagraves told the Environmental Concerns Committee Tuesday night that a container is needed so that his department could handle materials ranging from industrial chemicals and medical waste to gasoline. A container would allow the village to hold potentially hazardous material until it could be identified and removed by a hauler, he said.
He estimated the cost of a container at $31,513. Funding would come from a surcharge on sewer bills.
