We all remember the names of the generals and the politicians who led America during World War II. After all, a lot of what they did involved granting interviews and talking into microphones.
But who remembers the thousands of ordinary people who gave their lives to insure victory for the American cause?
In the name of those who died and with a thought to family members who survived, the Chicago Tribune will post on its on-line service the name of every Illinois soldier, airman, sailor, Coast Guardsman and Marine who died in World War II.
There are 22,283.
The list will be available on Chicago Tribune Online on Saturday, Sept. 2, the 50th anniversary of the Japanese surrender.
