While in total sympathy with movements to return married priests to active ministry (“Priests for hire,” Tempo, Aug. 22), I note that there are some 200 priests in the Archdiocese of Chicago, involuntarily retired due to age. When looking to “rent a priest,” you will find many of them eager to be employed. They may be a little more sensitive to the constraints of canon law than their married brethren, but they can marry, bury and baptize with equal skill.
