DEVELOPING BLACK-AND-WHITE DASH

–Designer Donna Karan recommends introducing a bright hue with a knit element: Think turtlenecks or crews in fuchsia, orange or lime.

–Those with pale complexions can avoid white washout by selecting a warm-white shade with a touch of yellow or brown, such as antique white or cream.

–The spectator–a black-and-white classic–is back in pump, loafer and oxford styles. If they make you feel foot-conscious, balance them out with a b/w plaid jacket and solid-color skirt or pants.

–Apply Karan’s rule, “Accent the positive, delete the negative,” to your figure when determining how to wear black and white pieces. Black is the camouflage, white the spotlight; dress accordingly.
