I’d like to express my appreciation and support for the position you took in your editorial of Sept. 5 headlined “America’s public lands are at risk.”
As a trustee of The Trust for Public Land, I have become increasingly aware of the importance of open space and parks to the welfare of all communities. The Trust for Public Land is a non-profit organization that helps governments and community groups acquire and protect land for public use. A recent study shows that adequate park and open land result in a marked decrease in the crime rate.
Again, congratulations on the strong position that you’ve taken.
