Cicero School District 99 has received a $50,000 grant from the state to study ways to ease overcrowding in its classrooms, State Sen. Thomas Walsh said Tuesday. The funds were released by Gov. Jim Edgar through the state’s Build Illinois program.
Enrollment in School District 99 has been growing by about 500 pupils a year for the past seven or eight years, according to school officials. The funds will be used to look into ways to find more classroom space and assess the feasibility of building a new school.
