The Illinois Department of Transportation is planning to improve the safety of the Cass Avenue Frontage Road at Interstate Highway 55 by installing a shoulder and new fence.
Although its speed limit is 25 m.p.h., this S-turn can be treacherous, especially on an icy day.
Art Brenner, director of the Public Works Department, said IDOT plans to install a 6-foot asphalt shoulder and replace the wire fencing with a sturdier chain-link fence on the frontage road.
