Putting the perspective before the poison:
Last year’s 49ers, like this year’s Dolphins, also began the season 4-2.
And one of those losses was by 32 points, at home, to a team that didn’t make the playoffs.
Don’t forget, either, that Dallas lost consecutive games to open a Super Bowl season.
That said, I’m done apologizing for the Dolphins.
I wrote that last week’s collapse against Indianapolis was meaningless and, by itself, it was. It could have been but a blip en route to a 7-1 start. But link that loss with Sunday’s 33-30 calamity against winless New Orleans, and you have something terribly troubling.
Because Miami didn’t bounce back like champions do.
Because Miami didn’t learn anything.
Because Miami sounds like it’s deep in denial.
Some Dolphins had the gall to say that, if you took away the turnovers, Miami played a good game Sunday.
Yeah, and if you took away the gunshot, Abraham Lincoln enjoyed the play.
