A coalition of public interest groups whose mission is to influence transportation planning in the Chicago area is appealing to regional officials to expand mass transit in urban areas. The Chicagoland Transportation and Air Quality Commission is releasing a study, “The $650-Billion Decision: The Citizen Transportation Plan for Northeastern Illinois,” at a news conference this week. The study explains why the group believes authorities should focus on developing transportation in the Chicago area rather than create “suburban sprawl” by building new toll roads.
