-Game of the week: Texas 17, Virginia 16. Phil Dawson’s 50-yard field goal into the wind as time expired lifted the Longhorns. Barring an unlikely Southwest Conference victory in postseason, it might have been the SWC’s last win over a ranked team. The SWC is 1-7-1 against the Top 25 in its farewell season.

-Flop of the week: Southern California. Will Navy beat Notre Dame before USC does? If ever the Trojans were ready to end their frustration against the Irish, this was the year. But Notre Dame makes it 13 years in a row without losing to Troy, and does it with embarrassing ease.

-Upset of the week: Florida State 42, Georgia Tech 10. The Yellow Jackets, who went 1-10 last year, held the Seminoles to their lowest total in an ACC game this year. Tech also kept Florida State off the board in the third quarter, its first scoreless quarter of the year.

-Player of the week: Marc Edwards. The Notre Dame fullback ran for three touchdowns, passed for a two-point conversion and ran for a two-pointer.

-Quote of the week: “If we wait for a jump-start at Lincoln, we’ll be down 20, 30, 40 points before you know it. Those guys don’t take any prisoners.” — Kansas State tight end Brian Lojka before the Cornhuskers jumped out to a 42-6 lead on their way to a 49-25 rout of K State.
