Oscar Serlin, 99, a decorated Army veteran of World War I, died Saturday in the hospice at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Mr. Serlin was awarded the Silver Star for bravery in France in 1918. He later played professional basketball and was the owner of Oscar Serlin Insurance in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. He is survived by a sister. Memorial services were held Tuesday.
