The crossing over Irving Park Road in Wood Dale is very similar to the one where the accident took place in Fox River Grove. At least once a week I see a car or truck or bus attempt to cross the tracks, even though there is not enough room for the vehicle to fully clear. There is at least one near-miss a month, and I have witnessed two vehicles struck at that crossing in the past year. As Metra riders often say, “The tie always goes to the train.”
Also, I cannot help but wonder if the driver of the ill-fated bus was not influenced by her being 20 minutes behind schedule.
