The Village Board glimpsed into the 21st Century when it viewed the 2010 Transportation Plan for McHenry County on Thursday night.
Village engineer Don Schwegel, along with his associate John Ambrose, displayed a map showing how the plan, adopted by the county in January, would affect Huntley in the years ahead.
Among the highlights were the planned widening of Illinois Highway 47 from Illinois Highway 120 to a full interchange with the Northwest Tollway. Algonquin Road would be widened eventually to five lanes, Schwegel said, and Miller and Ackman Roads extended west to Illinois 47.
“The biggest and most important” improvement, Schwegel said, would be a new crossing over the Fox River. “Outside of that,” he added jokingly, “there’s not much planned for your community.”
Schwegel’s presentation was sparked by the board’s consideration of improving the intersection at Illinois 47 and Chrysler Road.
Ambrose predicted that any improvements made now to that intersection by the village likely could be ripped out by the Illinois Department of Transportation when future Illinois 47 plans are implemented.
