Board members are looking to light up a milelong stretch on 173rd Place between Harlem and 69th Avenues with a $50,000 grant for street lights.

Trustees have approved the first reading of a Cook County community block grant ordinance for capital development within the village. The project is expected to begin by January.

Meanwhile, staff members are still waiting for $50,000, the amount approved last spring for property rehabilitation mostly on the village’s east side. The rehabilitation grant is primarily for helping the elderly with projects such as window replacement and roofing.
