George Lane Eldred, 87, a Hinsdale commodities broker and amateur radio buff, died Nov. 20 at his home. A World War II veteran, Mr. Eldred served in the Navy and handled communications for the Normandy invasion. This fostered his interest in amateur radio. He retired in the early 1970s after a long career with Zimmerman Alderson Carr. Mr. Eldred is survived by a daughter, Sharon. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield St., Hinsdale.
