Shareholders of St. Louis-based Union Electric Co. and Springfield -based CIPSCO Inc., parent of Central Illinois Public Service Co., approved the merger of the utilities, which serve central and southern Illinois and portions of Missouri. The merged firm, if the deal is approved by regulators, is to be known as Ameren Corp.
