The Village Board voted to ban ice skating and fishing on all municipal-controlled bodies of water.

The “keep off the ice” ordinance applies to ponds, streams, lagoons and the village-controlled access to the Fox River.

The law was drafted in response to concerns about the safety of ponds in the Foxmoor subdivision, according to Trustee Steve Tasch.

Village officials did not recount any specific incident that prompted the measure.

The municipal code allows for fines of up to $500, said Village Attorney Peter Rosenthal. But trustees were reluctant to set a minimum penalty.
