Chicago’s blue-bag recycling program has seen the number of bags double from 70,300 for the week of Dec. 4 to 140,000 the week of Dec. 18.
The report came as welcome news to city officials because of some critics’ doubts that not enough residents would participate to make the program a success.
“We’re optimistic about continued growth in the program,” said Department of Environment Commissioner Henry Henderson.
