Governors State University’s first board of trustees is scheduled to be sworn in on Friday. Maria D’Amezcua of Chicago, Kristi DeLaurentiis of Homewood, Bruce Friefeld of Frankfort, Fran Grossman and Sally Jackson of Chicago, Bill McGee of Chicago Heights and Barbara “Bobbie” Peterson of Beecher will be sworn in.
Founded in 1969, Governors State University had been under the direction of the Board of Governors Universities until February 1995 when the Illinois legislature disbanded the Board of Governors Universities and the Board of Regents, giving each public institution of higher education its own board of trustees.
