Starting Sunday, Chicago Transit Authority weekday commuters will have to pay a little more for tokens and transfers.

The price of tokens will increase by 10 cents to $1.35 each. A package of 10 tokens will cost $13.50, up from $12.50.

Transfers will increase by 5 cents to 30 cents.

The regular cash fare will remain unchanged at $1.50, and the monthly pass will still cost $88.

For reduced fare customers, which include senior citizens, grade and high school students, and riders with disabilities, the cash fare will remain unchanged at 75 cents and the monthly pass price will remain $44.

But the price of tokens for these riders will increase to 67 1/2 cents each, up from 60 cents, when purchased in a pack of 20–which will now cost $13.50. Transfers that now cost 10 cents will increase to 15 cents.

From 10 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. New Year’s Day, the cost for travel on buses and trains will be a penny.

This is the 10th consecutive year that the CTA is offering the cheap rides on New Year’s Eve to encourage revelers not to drive while impaired.
