The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee on Monday recommended passage of a bill that would create a 24-hour waiting period for women seeking abortions.
Opponents called the bill an infringement on a woman’s privacy and constitutional rights. Supporters said a waiting period would not take away or restrict a woman’s right to an abortion.
The committee voted 10-5 in favor of the bill and sent it to the Senate, where a close vote is expected this month or in March. The measure was passed by the Assembly last year.
