FMC Corp. reported a 12 percent increase in fourth-quarter net income, to $28.4 million, or 75 cents a share, from $25.3 million, or 68 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales advanced 16 percent, to $1.2 billion from $1.03 billion.

The Chicago-based producer of chemicals and machinery said that manufacturing disruptions at several chemical plants, which have been cleared up, reduced quarterly earnings by 15 cents to 25 cents a share.

For 1995, net income increased 24 percent, to $215.6 million, or $5.72 a share, from $173.4 million, or $4.66 a share, in 1994. Sales were up 12 percent, to $4.5 billion from $4 billion.

Earnings for 1995 reflect special income and expense items FMC recognized in the third quarter, which had the net result of adding 9 cents a share to earnings.
