The U.S. Postal Service has been bombarding us with George C. Scott commercials (at who knows what cost) about the great service they give. They sponsored a Rose Bowl float (at a cost estimated to be a minimum of $250,000).
Now, when nobody was looking, they have closed all of the “extended evening hour” neighborhood post offices at 5 p.m. I and many other “postal patrons” discovered this on the evening of Jan. 16, a day that estimated income-tax payments were due to be postmarked. The only notifications given were the little signs in the windows of the two post offices I visited, stating their new hours. Makes you just love the Postal Service, doesn’t it?
