Chicago Public School leaders are expected to announce their long-awaited education plan Wednesday, detailing how they intend to boost student achievement. The plan, according to Chief Executive Officer Paul Vallas, calls for the construction of middle schools and freshman-only schools to help students make a smoother transition, recruiting master’s-degree candidates in business education to serve as business managers at schools, dispatching 50 teams of university professors and educational experts to dysfunctional schools, and requiring low-achieving students to attend summer school. Vallas also is expected to announce a staff shakeup that will result in the consolidation of some departments and the layoff of dozens of employees.
