A 198-unit housing complex for seniors has been proposed for a site within the former Washington Park racetrack property, now known as Prairie Lakes Business Park.

James Perlman, a partner in American Housing Partners, said his company proposes to develop, own and operate a three-story building of one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The proposed complex would be on slightly less than 14 acres east of President’s Drive, behind the Jewel grocery on Halsted Street.

The Village Board voted 5-1 to direct village staff to prepare a proposed ordinance for the project in the Washington Park planned unit development.
