Violet Frederick, 76, a former Navy seaman and a longtime Warrenville resident, died at her daughter’s home Friday. Born in Brooklyn, she joined the Women’s Auxiliary Voluntary Emergency Service in 1944 and served two years with the Personnel Department in Washington. She met her husband, James, on the way to that assignment when her father asked a nearby stranger in a coffee shop, also on his way to a naval assignment, to watch over her during the train ride. The two were married in 1945, moved to Warrenville in 1948 and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Frederick was active at St. Irene Catholic Church in Warrenville and the Church of the Resurrection in Glen Ellyn. Survivors besides her husband include three sons, James Jr., Jack and Robert; two daughters, Jil-Ann Palumbo and Carol; a brother; and 15 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Leonard Memorial Home Ltd., 3 S 534 Batavia Rd., Warrenville. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Irene Catholic Church, 28 W 531 Warrenville Rd., Warrenville.
