The New York Mets put Bill Pulsipher and Pete Harnisch on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday and so will begin the season without two pitchers who figured to be in their starting rotation.
Pulsipher, a 22-year-old lefty who showed tremendous potential as a rookie last year, was diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his left elbow one week ago and is expected to be out for three weeks. It is the second time in six months he has had elbow problems.
Harnisch, a 29-year-old veteran right-hander, will remain at the club’s spring training complex to continue rehabilitation on his right shoulder. He had surgery on the shoulder last August.
In Tuesday’s 5-1 win over the Royals, Butch Huskey tied Dave Kingman’s club spring training record with his eighth home run.
