The personnel files of teachers and administrators are open to the public, the Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled.
In two cases released Thursday, the court ruled 2-0 that neither the Michigan Constitution nor common law required the files to be kept secret. The ruling said teachers and administrators have no right of privacy protecting the files from disclosure.
One of the cases involved a suit by the Lansing Association of School Administrators against the Lansing school district board, and the other involved the Saranac Community Schools.
