An incredible 50,000 species of plants and animals are driven to extinction each year. This is primarily caused by the destruction of the forest habitats, according to environmentalists at a UN seminar on forests.

There is a limit to how much assault the ecosystem can withstand before large-scale disruptions occur. Already, the protective ozone shield has been somewhat depleted, and air, water and soil have been severely polluted. Global warming has also begun and is abetted by the destruction of the forests, which absorb carbon dioxide.

Where are the voices for good environmentalist stewardship and preservation of rich diversity of life? Why aren’t we hearing more in the news media from community leaders and corporations, including the host of pundits in government and religion?
