Mike Royko’s columns on the continental style of eating, leaving the fork in the left hand, recall an old World War II movie, “O.S.S.,” starring Alan Ladd. In it, one of Ladd’s team is betrayed to the Gestapo in a French cafe, when a waiter notices him switching the fork from his left to his right hand–a dead giveaway for an American agent.
