Msgr. John J. Egan’s March 17 commentary (“Religion and politics/Count me out, Christian Coalition,” Op-Ed) was right on target. I applaud him for his courage to speak out and take a stand. As a Protestant I have become increasingly concerned about the “silence” of mainline Protestant clergy.
The outrageous half-truths and questionable political tactics of Pat Robertson and his followers need to be publicly addressed by other Christian leaders and also by leaders of other religions.
The mean-spirited social policies, exclusionary attitudes and the narrow-minded constitutional and biblical interpretations of the coalition should be cause for grave concern by all rational Americans.
Pat Robertson and Co. are not my type of Christians.
