You reported on March 26 (Main news) that the National Forest Service surreptitiously permitted private companies with lumbering interests to harvest as many as 32,000 healthy trees a month from national forests under the guise of clearing dead and dying trees.
As a taxpaying citizen and student of conservation I am appalled that a governmental agency is promoting the interests of these companies over those of the natural resources they are charged with protecting. The public has generally accepted recycling and all types of procedures to save paper, presumably to save the dwindling national forests for future generations. This type of incident, however, is a slap in the face to those of us trying to make a difference in our own small way.
