The board of the Streamwood Park District Thursday night discussed minor problems that have occurred with the opening of Park Place, including difficult patrons.

Commissioners approved hiring a police officer during the over-30 open gym hours at the new recreation, fitness and aquatic center after some men verbally abused a staff member.

The staff was instructed to offer the officer a free pass to Park Place in exchange for his or her security services.

The board also agreed to install a turnstyle to close off the fitness center to groups of youngsters who enter without paying.

More than 1,800 individuals have joined the center in its first two weeks..
