Dane County plans to preserve a 126-acre farm just south of Madison where archeologists have unearthed numerous artifacts dating back to the state’s first inhabitants 10,000 to 12,000 years ago.

For some years, archeologists combing the rolling fields have found spear points that date to the earliest time of human habitation. Sites with such artifacts are extremely rare in Wisconsin, and that so much ancient material was found simply poking out of the soil has archeologists excited about additional finds.
