For two days the Yankees were hush-hush about it, but David Cone was back at the ballpark Sunday, explaining that he underwent an angiogram Friday at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital that determined he has a circulation problem in his pitching hand.

“I went from not missing a start in nine years to wondering if I had a life-threatening problem,” said Cone, who spent Friday night in the hospital.

“Why it happened is still a mystery, but I do know the problem is isolated in the hand.”

Cone said he is taking blood-thinning medication and has been told to stop using nicotine–he is a smoker–as well to moderate alcohol and caffeine consumption.

Cone said doctors speculated the cause of the circulation problem was the result of some sort of “trauma to my hand.”

Cone said he expects to start Thursday against the White Sox.
