Wisconsin Central Transportation Corp. reported first-quarter profits declined 18 percent, to $8.1 million, or 48 cents a share, from $9.9 million, or 59 cents a share, in the year-earlier period.

The Rosemont-based regional railroad firm attributed the decline to severe weather and to a derailment in Weyauwega, Wis. Revenues for the first quarter climbed 3 percent, to a record $65 million from $63 million.

– Selfix Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of home products, said its net loss deepened in the first quarter to $1.1 million, or 29 cents a share, from $246,000, or 7 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales dropped 20 percent, to $8.6 million from $10.7 million. Chicago-based Selfix blamed the deterioration on bad weather.
