A 39-year-old local man was killed over the weekend after he apparently lost control of his car and smashed into a tree at 441 N. Sheridan Rd.
Walter Colon, of 2020 Pine St., was pronounced dead Sunday evening at St. Therese Medical Center.
According to witnesses, Colon was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed when his car left the roadway and clipped a tree, spinning the car into a second tree, police said. The car, a Chevrolet Cavalier Colon had reportedly borrowed from a family member, was totaled, police said.
The Lake County coroner’s office has listed multiple traumatic injuries as the cause of death.
