These days it’s really hip to wear white shoes way past Labor Day-not to mention adorning oneself in velvet, satin and lace any old time of the day or year.
Still, even with sartorial parameters tossed willy-nilly to the wind, after a brutal winter of hibernating with Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia, flannel pj’s and the remote control, we all need a signal that it’s time to let the sunshine in.
And nothing-but nothing- shouts the promise of sun and fun like crisp clean clothes turned out in white.
White signals summer, a time when the blustery “Hawk” goes into hiding and adults frolic like kindergartners along the lakefront. Then there are the miracle properties of white duds: Even the cheapest clothes look expensive and virtually every skin color, from milky ivory to deepest ebony takes on a burnished glow.
Best of all, you’ll always look cool in it-and this season, at least, you’ll look chic in it, too.
