Beginning June 10, parents of children 2 years old or younger in South Florida’s Dade County will be able to buy a permit that allows them to park in designated parking spaces–near spaces for the disabled — at various business locations, Assistant County Manager David Morris said Thursday.
Parents must have a permit–at a cost of $3 for six months–as well as a stroller in the car, to park in the spaces outlined with green paint and signs displaying a baby carriage.
Metro Commissioner Natacha Millan, sponsor of the parking ordinance, said she got the idea on a trip to Germany, where she saw such spaces. The special spaces, she said, are a necessity. “It really is a big production to go anywhere with a baby,” she said.
