Complaints from residents over raw sewage in their homes from heavy rains on Monday has left Mayor Bill Lefew scrambling to find a quick solution to the problem.

Lefew requested the Sewer and Water Committee to meet immediately to discuss the problem.

The decision to call the meeting “was a direct result of my going out and knocking on doors,” LeFew said. “It wasn’t an isolated thing. All the wards had problems.”

Complaints about bad sewers received by the Public Works Department and the police department would be forwarded to the committee members, LeFew said.

Sewer and Water Committee chairman Ald. Mel Hinterlog (2nd) scheduled the meeting for 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
