Your military editorial took me back to my two years in the Army as an ROTC lieutenant.
The culture I experienced there remains the most anti-woman-as-person I have ever encountered. From the posters of naked women in the barracks to the preclass jokes told by the officers, it was difficult to avoid the conclusion that a disrespect for women was an essential part of the military manual.
Perhaps it is a part of the Defense Department’s modus operandi to foster disrepect for all but authority, and most especially the personification of nurturing in life–the woman. I suppose it makes killing an easier task for those called upon to do it.
Legal or not, the Tribune’s defense of the continual degradation of women by the military stinks.
