In an area where subdivisions are planted like so many seeds of corn, Huntley is doing its part to keep up.
Thursday night, the Village Board heard a presentation from Town & Country Homes of Westchester, which recently purchased 1,900 acres on the southern edge of the village.
The company said it would like to put up 4,171 homes ranging in size from 1,400 square feet to 3,500 square feet over 15 years. The development could bring 16,000 residents to Huntley, said Kurt Wandrey, executive vice president of Town and County.
Town & Country also plans to create 64 acres of parks in the project.
“We’re only going to build a house when somebody buys it from us,” said Wandrey.
The first phase of the development would include 300 homes, he said.
“We’d like to truly move dirt late this fall,” said Wandrey. “It’s probably a year from this fall that the first homes are in.”
Robert Nelis, village administrator, said, “We have a lot of developers who are ready to start (building).”
The property to be planted with Town & Country homes is at the northwest corner of Illinois Highway 47 and Interstate Highway 90.
