You may have the skills and savvy you need to move up the ladder, but you’ll stall on a midlevel rung if you don’t master this image essential: body language.

Here are tips to project power offered by Phyllis Mindell, a communications consultant, in Executive Female magazine:

– Heads up. Casting your chin and eyes down makes you seem passive and uncertain. Hold your head high and make direct eye contact whether speaking or listening.

– Arms control. Don’t slouch, but keep body posture relaxed. Use open-hand gestures but don’t clutch or cross arms.
