Wilma Rudolph, the 20th of 22 children of a Tennessee sharecropper, had polio as an infant. Once forced to walk with braces, Rudolph ran to gold medals in the 100, 200 and sprint relay in 1960, a feat matched by only one other U.S. woman-Florence Griffith Joyner.
