The U.S. will send letters to three foreign firms warning them they may face sanctions because of their Cuban investments, a U.S. official said Friday.

The official said French distiller Pernod-Ricard, Spanish hotel chain Sol Melia and Israeli agribusiness concern BM would get letters in the next two weeks saying they may be violating the Helms-Burton law, under which the U.S. punishes foreign firms that profit from property expropriated by Castro’s Cuba more than 35 years ago.
