Birthday: Oct. 22, 1941.
Birthplace: London, England.
Occupation: Actor.
Current home: Connecticut.
Marital status: Married for 31 years to Mary Keating.
Children: Two sons, Sean, 31, and Jamie, 30, and I’m a new grandfather.
Car: A 1994 dark green Toyota truck.
Working on: I play Carl Hutchins on NBC’s “Another World.”
The last good movie I saw: “Babe.”
I stay home to watch: Documentaries on PBS or The Discovery Channel. I’m interested in archeological digs and the natural world.
Favorite pigout food: Bacon and eggs, whole wheat toast and marmalade and coffee in a place where I can smoke afterwards.
My fantasy is: I don’t daydream. I would rather invest myself fully in the moment than think about what a wonderful time I had in the Caribbean or will have in the future.
The things I can’t stand: Bad manners, cruelty, lack of awareness and stupidity.
My most irrational act: By some people’s yardsticks, so many of my choices were irrational. However, to me, everything I’ve ever done has been quite rational.
The best time in my life: Whatever play I’m in–whether it’s “Twelfth Night” or “Macbeth”–is my favorite. And whatever moment I’m in I try to get the most out of.
If I’ve learned one thing in life it’s: At the end of the day I will only be able to say: I know nothing.
Major accomplishment: My family has survived and thrived and grown through this journey, which is a testimony to them as well. I can take credit only for my small part.
Most humbling experience: As a young man, I was in New York, in a bookstore. I saw a very filthy, smelly bum. I wondered what book he was going to steal and I followed him for a bit. At the cash register I saw him pay 45 cents for a cheap edition of a Shakespeare play. I was quite stunned. He got together 45 cents and bought poetry. I didn’t feel very good about myself.
The words that best describe me: Trying to describe myself is like trying to describe the sky over the coast of Ireland. One minute it’s gloomy and threatening and the next it’s bright and heartening.
