For a brief time Monday afternoon, incoming spectators, media members, shuttle buses and volunteer workers were denied access by security personnel to the Olympic Center, the area that includes the Georgia Dome, Georgia World Congress Center and Omni Arena.

“There was an incident,” said an Air Force officer, who guarded the entrance to the Olympic Center.

According to an ACOG official, a fire marshal at the World Congress Center, where wrestling, fencing and weightlifting competitions were taking place, noticed a “suspicious looking” bag inside the facility.

As security experts were summoned, officials decided to close the Olympic Center to incoming pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The alert status didn’t last long and the entrances were opened within a half hour.
